Lupe Nielsen

There is no clear, concise definition of a truly magical woman, we come in all shapes and sizes and in many cases, we bring very diverse skill sets and goals to the table.  My objective with these talks is to try to talk to document as many magical guests as I can with as many different specialties and perspectives as possible.  Today’s guest is an example of just that.

Lupe Nielsen taught her first magic trick at age 4 in Panama, she continued to learn from books as soon she could read.  Before she was in her teens, she had developed a thriving birthday party magic show business, with magic that was self-taught.  She is highly intelligent, very clever and has a work ethic, drive and thirst to develop and learn that is the key to her success.

Her story is remarkable, she has superb closeup skills, a degree in theatre ?, she has demonstrated magic, studied magic, performed magic and builds and maintains a magic product line.  Yes, you heard correctly she, herself fabricates exceptional magic effects herself and she does all of these skills so beautifully and so understated it’s easy to overlook.

Lupe’s partner and husband was magic legend, Norm Nielsen and together, for over twenty years, they attended conventions where Norm often was a guest star performer.  They ran a flourishing magic product and magic poster replication business.  Not to mention having one of the largest historic magic poster collections in the United States.  Plus, Lupe is a magic historian as well.  In short, she is remarkable, humble and she has provided insight, services and quality that cannot be matched.  It is with true delight that I spoke with Lupe about her journey, struggles and successes.

LeRoya Sanford

LeRoya Sanford is magical in so many ways, she started her entertainment career at the Ha!Ha! Club as a comedian at age 8!  She has credits for being the youngest comedian ever to star in clubs like the Improv, the Laugh Factory and More.  She’s appeared on ABC’s the View where she entertained and charmed none other than Whoppi Goldberg.

LaRoya turned to magic to provide a sense of hope and to make her comedy more inspirational.   She successfully auditioned for the Junior Magic Society at the Magical Castle and  she attends the monthly meetings there.

LeRoya is not just a stand-up comedian and magician, she’s a driven mentor, standing up and representing children to provide a voice and to empower their dreams.

Still in her teens herself, her accomplishments to date are astonishing, she’s highly intelligent, multi-talented and motivated to make her mark in entertainment and the world.

Her life message is:  “Remember, every minute spent angry is 60 seconds of wasted happiness”

We are so happy to include the dynamically driven LeRoya Sanford on our Magical Women interview series.  I hope that her message and positivity inspires you, as she did me.

Jen Kramer

Since 1992, my business and shows have been registered and based from Las Vegas.  It’s my home-base, although in recent years contracts and commitments have taken me away from the desert to the high seas, Europe and Asia. I return back home to Las Vegas whenever possible.  About a year and a half ago I was back in Las Vegas and going to see shows to see the new trends and new talent.

It was my great pleasure to attend Jen Kramer’s show at the Westgate in Las Vegas.  When I was headlining in Las Vegas the Westgate was the Las Vegas Hilton, it was so exciting to see the only female magician headlining in Las Vegas in a one-woman show where entertainment legends and history were created.

Jen Kramer’s show was charming, clever, refreshing, fun, magical, impossible and skilled.  The audience connect with her and to her, she has a warm likeability factor, and they responded enthusiastically to her manipulations of mind, matter and magic.   It is a great pleasure to speak with the magical Jen Kramer on our Magical Women Interview series.

Gay Blackstone

After much debate I named this project Magical Women and I cannot think of a better fit and guest-star who truly depicts that Magical Women Title.

Gay Blackstone’s career is unprecedented.  She is one of the most powerful figures in magic today as an executive producer of both the Masters of Illusion television series, currently in its 22nd season on the CW Network, AND the internationally touring Masters of Illusion live shows.

Gay has provided more exposure, work and opportunities to magic and magicians than anyone ever.  She has literally cast hundreds of magicians in her broadcast television and live shows.  It’s a who’s who of magic and Gay Blackstone’s experience and creative vision brings a treasure trove of knowledge, consistently getting the job done, efficiently, precisely and successfully.

As it that’s not enough Gay is the chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Magic Castle and the Academy of Magic Arts.

From her first LOOK magazine cover at age two, to dancing and acting distinctions as a child entertainer; to being cast as one of the infamous “Gold Digger’s” in Dean Martins televised Variety show, Gay was a shing star destined to soar great heights.

What started as a brief magic contract developed into a love legacy with the legendary Harry Blackstone Junior.  They were partners in life and magic, Gay is credited as a co-producer of the Blackstone Magic show which toured extensively and holds the distinction of being the longest running magic show in Broadway history.

You name it and most likely Gay has accomplished and done it well.  She is an expert in every facet of show business and brings a life-time of experience and well-earned successes

Gay is here on Magical Women to share some of her secrets, challenges and triumphs.  It is with great pleasure I welcome the magical Gay Blackstone.

Tina Lenert

Tina Lenert was the first female magician I ever saw.   Her Mr. Mopman act made a lasting impression and inspired me to create a magic that has meaning and tells a story, to give the performance depth and make it memorable.  Mr. Mopman & Tina have starred on stage and screen worldwide for over 30 years,  Mr. Mopman is just one facet of Tina’s performance repertoire and skill set, but it’s the one that made a lifetime impression on me and many in the entertainment and magic communities.

It was a great please to talk to Tina on Magical Women, to share some of her experiences, her impressions and her knowledge of performance, music, mime and magic, with a twist and breath of yoga on the side.

Luna Shimada

Luna Shimada was born into a magic dynasty, she’s the daughter of the legendary Shimada, magic is in her DNA and she appeared on-stage, literally before she was born.

Her story is unique, her childhood was far from “normal”, she’s evolved from a silent assistant to a magic partner to being an esoteric magician who definitely follows her own vision and creativity.

She’s been called a renaissance woman, a sorceress, a story teller, a mentor, a mother and a philosopher.  She’s had major successes and major struggles and has survived a life-time in show business that is remarkable.

Luna is a truly magical woman and it’s with great pleasure we present these talks about her experiences, her inspirations and her visions.

Kayla Drescher

Kayla Drescher is talented, clever, intelligent, funny and creative.  David Copperfield stated, “she’s obviously very, very good” and David personally choose Kayla to be his choice for “the Search for the Next Great Magician” on NBC’s the Today Show in 2013 – which is no minor feat.

Kayla was destined to be a magician.  Early on, magic triggered something in her DNA where the precise formulas and mysteries of science and the suspended reality and performances in magic intertwined.

At age seven, she watched the cut and restored rope trick for the first time at a magic shop.  She quickly learned the trick and was soon performing it in her school talent show and has not stopped since.  She has a strong technical foundation and the creativity to create unique versions of magic that fit and compliment her quirky personality.  Pre-pandemic Kayla was one of the Champions of Magic stars touring nationally and abroad.

Kayla created SHEZAM which she hosts and which produces regularly scheduled magic podcasts creating a reliable, responsible source and voice for women in magic and entertainment, embracing diversity and change.

In her Magical Women talks Kayla provides much insight and humor about coping with the unexpected, working abroad and of course, performing magic in heels.  We hope that you enjoy her talks as much as we did chatting with her.

Diana Zimmerman

Diana Zimmerman is a living legend.  She enchanted audiences from age eight and paved the way for Magical Women, inspiring future magicians.

Diana the Enchantress earned the title “the World’s Foremost Lady Magician” with a career that spanned over twenty-five years on stage on television.  AND that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

In addition to her own television show and successes on stage, in 1974 Diana co-created, with Cary Grant, the Junior Magician’s Club at the Magic Castle.  She remains active within the club to date mentoring hands-on some of the most successful young talent to emerge from the program.  She lectures and has invented magic and illusions that have been performed by the biggest stars in magic.

Diana exited the stage and screen as graciously as she entered it in 1984 and since then she’s launched several multi-million-dollar communications companies and authored a highly successful teen-book series called KANDIDE.

Diana is a role model for success in everything she aspires.  We are excited and honored to have Diana Zimmerman as our magical guest star and part of our series of in-depth talks and sequels.
